Students who decide to pursue a career as a patient care technician will learn everything that they need to know to prepare them for a job in the patient care technician field once they complete our program. At the National Career Institute, students are required to complete 270 hours or 12 credits in order to graduate from our comprehensive program.
The program focuses primarily on training Certified Nursing Aides in three areas of expertise that include patient care, EKG technicians or phlebotomy technicians. Courses focus on subjects as varied as infection control procedures, anatomy and physiology, quality assurance, special testing procedures, and medical law and ethics.
Students who complete a patient care technician program will find that there are plenty of career opportunities available to them, and according to the U.S. Department of Labor, these opportunities are only expected to increase in the future. For example, jobs as nursing assistants and orderlies are expected to increase by 17 percent from 2014 to 2024, which is a much faster rate than the average job growth.
One of the reasons for this expected job growth is due to the fact that there are more seniors in need of medical care than ever before. In fact, the Population Reference Bureau projected that the aging of the baby boom generation could result in a 75 percent increase in the number of Americans 65 and older that are in need of nursing home care by 2030.
